'Medical incident' forces driver to send car into Pensacola Bay near Grand Marlin

An individual drove into the Pensacola Bay near Grand Marlin Monday afternoon after a health emergency caused them to lose control of their car.

Escambia County Public Information and Education Officer Davis Wood told the News Journal that vehicle had one passenger in addition to the driver when the accident occurred at 3:22 p.m.

"There was a medical incident which led to the patient driving into the water," Wood said.

Rescue workers were called to Pensacola Beach Monday afternoon after a car was driven into the Bay near Grand Marlin.

Both individuals were out of the water by the time rescue workers arrived. Both the driver and passenger were sent to a local hospital, one via EMS and one elected to take themselves to the hospital.

Due to HIPPA regulations, Wood could not discuss the nature of the medical emergency that caused the incident.
