‘Meet The Press’ Sweeps November Derby For First Time In Four Years

NBC‘s Meet the Press with Chuck Todd won the November sweep across the board. It’s the franchise’s first No. 1 finish in all categories for the sweep in four years; in the news demo, MTP’s win is its first in three years. The pugnacious, goateed newsman took over as host of the long-running franchise on September 7, 2014.

ABC’s This Week with George Stephanopoulos ranked No. 1 on Sunday, November 22, in both total viewers (3.43M) and in the news demo (964K/0.8 rating) and, season to date, This Week ranks No. 1 in the news demo (That morning also saw Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace snag its biggest crowd in nearly a decade, 1.94M, thanks mostly to its interview with Rush Limbaugh). Still, the November sweeps results suggest Todd has pulled NBC’s long-running Sunday Beltway show out of the ratings spiral into which it got sucked with host David Gregory. Gregory had helmed the show since shortly after the untimely death of longtime host/genre front-runner Tim Russert in June 2008. Todd delivered the program’s biggest overall November sweep audience since 2008 and beat CBS’ Face the Nation among total viewers for the first time since 2011. MTP also widened the gap over ABC’s This Week to the biggest margin since 2012.

MTP posted its first adults 25-54 demo win and biggest demo audience since 2012, topping both Face the Nation and This Week for the first time in two years. The NBC broadcast also won among younger 18-49 viewers for the first time since 2012 and beat both ABC and CBS for the first time in two years.

Face the Nation continues to rate 30 minutes of its hour-long broadcast, and This Week rated an average of just 36 minutes per hourlong broadcast in November; MTP rated 45 minutes of its hour-long broadcast.
