Megaupload’s Kim Dotcom: Joe Biden is in bed with the MPAA

U.S. Government: Joe Biden had nothing to do with Megaupload shut down or Kim Dotcom’s arrest

The strange and amusing saga of Megaupload founder Kim Dotcom took another interesting twist on Tuesday when Dotcom told TorrentFreak that none other than Vice President Joe Biden himself ordered the federal government to shut down his file-sharing site. Though no firm evidence of Vice President Biden’s involvement was presented, Dotcom does have a semi-plausible explanation for the veep’s interest in his site: Biden is good friends with former Senator Chris Dodd, who is now living out his glory years shilling for Hollywood’s anti-piracy efforts.

“After we received information from an insider we scanned the White House visitor logs for all meetings of Chris Dodd and studio bosses with Joe Biden and Obama,” Dotcom said. ”It is interesting that a man by the name of Mike Ellis of MPA Asia, an extradition expert and former superintendent of the Hong Kong police, was also at a meeting with Dodd, all studio bosses and Joe Biden. The same Mike Ellis met with the Minister of Justice Simon Power in New Zealand.”

As Gizmodo notes, Dotcom seems to be engaging in some speculation here since he only has circumstantial evidence that Biden was at all in the loop on the government’s decision to go after Megaupload, and he certainly doesn’t have any definitive evidence that Biden personally ordered the raid. Gizmodo does say, however, that Dotcom claims to have more details to back up his accusation and he “plans to release them when the time is appropriate,” so there may be more on this story to come.
