MEIZU outs its MX Quad-core Android smartphone, Galaxy S III unveiling rumored for May 3
Chinese electronics manufacturer Meizu is launching the world’s first smartphone with Samsung’s quad-core Exynos A9 processor.
Called simply the MX Quad-core smartphone, the device closely resembles the Meizu’s popular (dual-core) MX smartphone which was launched earlier this year.
While the phone sports a similar design and features, Meizu promises the MX Quad-core is “better in every way than its predecessor.” The processor is 60 percent faster, power consumption has been reduced by up to 20 percent and the device is said to stay powered up for longer thanks to a bigger 1700mAh battery.
“Whether it is browsing through menus, playing the latest games, or watching 1080p video, the MX Quad-core easily beats dual-core devices,” said Meizu.
The MX Quad-core also sports an 8MP camera, Meizu’s unique Flyme OS which is based on Android 4.0, and a 4” 960x640 display.
Samsung is getting ready to unveil its next-generation Galaxy device at a May 3 event in London. Most blogs suspect that the device on show at the event will be the much-rumored Galaxy S II successor, the Galaxy S III.
The Korea Times believes that Samsung will use the same in-house made Exynos-branded quad-core chips (instead of those made by Qualcomm) in the Galaxy S III in an attempt to “lower its dependence on Qualcomm.”
According to The Verge the Galaxy S III will also include a 7mm profile, a 4.65” 720 Super AMOLD display and LTE.
The Meizu MX Quad-core smartphone is due to hit stores in June this year. The 32GB and 64GB versions of the device will be priced at ¥2999/3999 CNY (€365/€485) and $3099/4099 HKD (€305/€405) in Mainland China and Hong Kong respectively.
The price of the original dual-core Meizu MX smartphone will drop to ¥2399 CNY and $2599 HKD respectively as of April 16.
