Memphis Police Officer Who Was Expecting His First Child is Shot Dead On His Way to Work
A neighbor has been charged in connection with the fatal shooting of a Memphis police officer who was expecting his first child.
Terence Olridge, 31, was shot multiple times as he left his home in Cordova, Tennessee to go to work around 1 p.m. on Sunday.
On Monday, his neighbor, 36-year-old Lorenzo Clark, was charged with felony possession of a firearm in connection with his death, police said.
Police say the men had an encounter before exchanging gunfire on Sunday afternoon, and Olridge was struck. After the shooting, he managed to get back to his house and tried to get help. He was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition but later died.

Clark, who surrendered to police without incident, is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday. Records did not list a lawyer.
Memphis police spokesman Louis Brownlee said Clark was charged with being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun, but declined to say whether further charges would be brought, the Associated Press reported.
Shelby County court records show Clark was sentenced to a year in jail in March 2003, the AP reported. He reportedly pleaded guilty to reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon and unlawful possession of a weapon in a public place.
Olridge had been on the force for slightly more than a year and had a fiancee who is four months pregnant, authorities said.
Dozens of people posted condolences for the slain cop on Facebook. Posts to the Blue Lives Matter Memphis page also called for support for the Memphis Police Department; Olridge is its second officer to be killed in just over two months.

Officer Sean Bolton was killed on August 1 after he interrupted a drug deal, police said. An ex-convict has been charged with first-degree murder in his death, the Associated Press reported.
Olridge is the fourth Memphis officer to be shot dead in slightly more than four years.
On Sunday, Armstrong told reporters: "It doesn't get any easier. I didn't think that we'd be here again so soon."
