'Men, Women & Children' Trailer: Everyone Is Texting and Jennifer Garner Is Sad

There's lots of texting in the trailer for Up in the Air director Jason Reitman's new film. Everyone is sending lots of messages, filled with longing and despair and a need for connection. So far, the Oxford comma-averse Men, Women & Children seems like a bummer.

But there is also Jennifer Garner in the trailer! Except she feels alone and empty. And Adam Sandler! Except he's looking for escorts despite being married.

Men, Women & Children probably won't be the most chipper movie at the Toronto International Film Festival (where it will premiere next month), but it has a shot at being one of the most innovative. The heavy incorporation of text on screen into the world around is interesting – an expansion on Chef's on-screen tweets earlier this year – and the cast is spectacular. Reuniting with Garner after her great work in Reitman's Juno is a smart move, and Adam Sandler's forays into drama are always interesting, if not great.

Other cast members include the divine Emma Thompson, The Fault in Our Stars star Ansel Elgort, and Rachel Getting Married standout Rosemarie DeWitt. Add to the great director and cast a cool shooting location (Austin) and we're officially excited.

Judging by the trailer's final tease – "Discover how little you know about the people you know" – we're in for a lot of exploration of contemporary humanity. Sounds about right for Reitman.
