‘Mentalist’ Star Owain Yeoman Cast as ‘Supergirl’ Villain

The reports are true: CBS’s “Supergirl” has booked Owain Yeoman as a villain for the pilot episode.

Yeoman will guest star as longtime DC Comics baddie Vartox, a Warner Bros. Television representative told TheWrap Thursday.

Vartox is an alien convict who has been hiding on Earth for the past 12 years. After Supergirl’s (Melissa Benoist) emergence on Earth, Vartox seeks her out to ascertain her identity and do battle with her. This will be the comic book character’s first live-action appearance.

Yeoman is best known for playing Wayne Rigsby on CBS’s “The Mentalist” for seven seasons. He has also appeared on AMC’s “Turn: Washington’s Spies” and “Extant,” among many others. He also appeared in the films “American Sniper” and “Troy.”

In addition to Benoist in the title role, Yeoman joins cast members Calista Flockhart, “Nashville” actress Laura Benanti, “True Blood” alum Mehcad Brooks, and Dean Cain and Helen Slater, who in the past have respectively played Superman on TV and Supergirl on the big screen.

Greg Berlanti, Ali Adler and Andrew Kreisberg are writing and executive producing “Supergirl,” with Sarah Schechter also executive producing and Glen Winter (“Arrow,” “The Flash,” “Smallville”) directing.
