Message to US agents: 'We'll chop your heads off'

CIUDAD JUAREZ, Mexico (AP) — A spray-painted sign threatening death for U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration agents was found Friday next to a school in a northern Mexico state capital, officials said.

Addressed with profanity to "Gringos (D.E.A.)," the unsigned graffiti warned: "We know where you are and we know who you are and where you go. We are going to chop off your (expletive) heads."

Anonymous messages conveying threats and other warnings are common in areas hit hard by Mexico's drug war, but it is rarer for them to threaten U.S. law enforcement. Authorities do not know who left the message, which was removed.

The DEA referred questions to the U.S. State Department. Officials there did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The message was left in the Chihuahua state capital, also called Chihuahua, which is about 220 miles (360 kilometers) from the U.S. border.

In February, suspected Zeta cartel members killed U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent Jaime Zapata and wounded colleague Victor Avila on a highway in the Mexican state of San Luis Potosi.

Also on Friday, five copies of a message addressed to Chihuahua Gov. Cesar Duarte were found painted on blankets known as "mantas" in Ciudad Juarez, a city across the border from El Paso, Texas. Those messages, apparently posted by rivals of the Sinaloa drug cartel, accused officials of protecting the Sinaloa organization.

It was not clear if the messages in Chihuahua and Ciudad Juarez were related.

"This sort of message will not stop us from continuing the fight to bring peace back to this state," Chihuahua Interior Secretary Graciela Ortiz said.

The threatening message against Duarte comes amid threats to the governor of Nuevo Leon, another northern state bordering Texas. Two of Gov. Rodrigo Medina's bodyguards were mutilated, killed and dismembered in June.

Looks like someone has declared WAR on the United States. Oh well, they will be very sorry that they messed with the United States; our military would just love a cake walk war LOL. Mexico hasn't won a war against a Modern Foreign Nation since their vicory against the French on 5 May 1862

That's not Mexico declaring war... it's the drug cartel declaring war.. just like it was Al-Qada that declared war not Pakistan/Afghanistan etc etc etc...

US/Mexico border security = Unmanned airplanes that can loiter all night with infra red/night vision. Add cluster bombs. Problem solved pretty much right away

If Mexico were any other country, the U.S. would consider the Drug Cartel a terrorist group.
These terrorists are on U.S. boarder and U.S. is taking a step back? Sounds like the U.S. is making too much money prosecuting the Drug Lords in the States.
      • Bryan B 11 mths ago
its not all about the money. Americans have an INSATIABLE appetite for drugs. Its our money the finances these drug lords.

This is excellent news. What more reason do we need, we need to put our military on the southern border to stop the drugs and endless supply of invaders headed North.
      • DOG DAYS 11 mths ago
we need to bring home our troops and put them on ALL our borders.

Has anyone else wondered why our military is in Afghanistan instead of occupying the Northern side of our Southern border? Corrupt military, corrupt police. It has spiraled out of control and there is no longer an effective government in Mexico. No difference between Afghanistan and Mexico, just closer to us.

Cry me a river and build me a bridge over it. People need to realize that the federal government hasn't secured the Texas border in over 150 years. Why would they start now? Don't believe the 150 year comment? Read the Articles of Texas Secession, it plainly lists the federal failure to secure the Texas border as a grievance. As far as winning the war on drugs, never is going to happen. Take a look at prohibition, same thing different era in my opinion. The only way to erode the power of the cartels is to take the money out of the drug trade and legalize it. Put the money that is spent on law enforcement fighting the cartels back into drug education and public infrastructure. Besides, if the authorities cannot keep drugs out of the prison system; how in the world do they plan to keep the general public drug free? I figure I pay taxes on any alcohol that I purchase, why is a stoner allowed to get by duty free? I say the Hell with Washington, let's deport Perry and Dewhurst and start over from scratch with a brand new Republic instead of this Totalitarian Corporate Crapfest that we are currently associated with.

It is time to bring our troops home from overseas and station them along the border. We have enough troops that we could saturate the border and still rotate them out for R&R every other month. STOP the drug runners, STOP the illegal aliens.
    • Dr. James Madison  •  10 mths ago
Build a 1700 mile long 1 mile wide moat along the entire border and fill it with alligators.

One way to solve this mess: legalize marijuana. It would drastically reduce drug-related violence from drug cartels, gangs, and petty criminals. Regulated sale of marijuana would result in a cheaper safer product (e.g. no lacing of other drugs) that would put many criminals and cartels out of business. Also, the relatively high price of marijuana has the effect of luring recreational users (i.e. many of our children) to more sinister drugs in the same price range.

Reduce the exposure of recreational users (again, our children) to criminals/criminal-type people (who they otherwise would have never met) that may introduce them to more dangerous drugs/lifestyles and lead them down less desirable life paths.

Drastically reduce the source of revenue, power, and control of the aforementioned (international) criminals who suck the life, money, and resources from our country. It's no surprise why the presidents of Mexico and Columbia are outspoken against legalized weed in the U.S.; the illegal export of their country's weed to the U.S brings lots of money back home to them and their country.

Drastically reduce a number of costs to the hardworking American citizens. In 2001 it cost on average $22,650 per year or $62.05 per day to house inmates (according to the Bureau of Justice Statistics). As of January 1, 2010, there were 1,404,053 people under the jurisdiction of state prison authorities (what about federal prison?!), according to the PEW Center on the states. Other costs include time and effort spent by all levels of government (local, state, and federal), campaigns against marijuana, etc.

Create a taxable market that could create many, many jobs and provide much needed state income. Imagine all of the good things that money could go towards!!

There are many similarities to the prohibition of alcohol in the 1920s and early '30s. We learned that no matter what we did, people had easy access to alcohol (as is the case with marijuana today). The prohibition just created a lucrative market for organized crime and increased violence and corruption.

And yet we dumb Americans keep giving this place money and support to help them live a better life.......I say we pull out and let them do whatever they want to.....Just keep it on there land and I will not care what happens. Happy 4th people to the free states

Close the borders, send all illegals home, post signs at border "U.S. Border Cross it and We are going to chop off your (expletive) heads." Please proceed to nearest check point to enter legally.
    • MISTELLE  •  11 mths ago
Then they hide like dogs. Sorry illegals, but this is why we are passing harsh laws on illegal immigration. We don't need this from your countries, keep all this garbage on the other side and leave our country in peace.

The US has an experienced battle hardened military. Not just our active military, all our military including the Reserves and National Guard. Not a good time to threaten the US. If the US military takes on the drug cartels directly it would be the same as our military mowing down little kids in a playground. Word of caution: Do Not Tread On Us.

If Islamic extremeists didnt scare us off with those threats im sure mexico wont.. I think its time we sieze the south bank of the rio grande and add 4 more states. Just to remind them we can.
