'Metal Gear Solid' creator to appear at Smithsonian art exhibit

'Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty' is among games features at 'The Art of Video Games.'

Metal Gear Solid series director Hideo Kojima will be appearing at Washington DC's Smithsonian American Art Museum on March 17, part of the three day GameFest that opens a new six-month exhibition, The Art of Video Games.

His conversation with exhibit curator Chris Melissinos will also be broadcast online via UStream, starting March 17 at 12 noon PDT (20:00 Central Europe, 3am March 18 Singapore).

Running March 16 to September 30, the exhibition features over 80 games in total, from Space Invaders and Donkey Kong through The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Shenmue to BioShock, Mass Effect 2, and Super Mario Galaxy 2, as well as lesser known examples such as Attack of the Mutant Camels, Einhander and Dune II.

Three of the final selection are Kojima productions: Metal Gear Solid (1998, PlayStation), Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty (2001, PlayStation 2), and Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (2008, PlayStation 3).

There's also a chance for visitors to try out some of these games for themselves, as Pac-Man, Super Mario Brothers, The Secret of Monkey Island (fundamental to Double Fine's Kickstarter success), Myst, and Flower (precursor to Journey) will be present as playable installations.
