Mexican navy recovers 15 bodies from mass graves

VERACRUZ, Mexico (AP) — A suspected member of the Zetas drug cartel led Mexican authorities to mass graves at two ranches in the Gulf coast state of Veracruz where marines unearthed 15 bodies by Wednesday.

The navy said its personnel detained Francisco Alvarado Martagon on Tuesday when he tried to drive a vehicle without license plates past a military checkpoint near the city of Acayucan.

Once in custody, Alvarado Martagon confessed to being a head lookout for the Zetas, the navy said.

Under questioning, the man mentioned two sites at local ranches that the Zetas allegedly used to dispose of bodies, including rivals or members of their own gang who had been executed, it said.

The navy announced Wednesday morning that marines inspected the sites and found the buried, decomposed remains of 10 people but were still searching. The security force increased the number of bodies to 15 later Wednesday.

Veracruz has been the scene of bloody battles between the Zetas and the Sinaloa drug cartel.

Mexican authorities have found hundreds of bodies dumped by drug gangs in mass graves in recent years, mainly in the northern states of Durango and Tamaulipas.

Good for Mexican Navy. They need to use every thing they got in order to defeat the cartels.

Anyone see anything wrong with a Navy being issued shovels?

Why is the "navy" covering land events ? Is their "army "watching the ocean while they pee in it ?

I hope this article is true. The fight for truth in their leaders is so difficult for Mexico men, women, and children. I know the feeling of wondering will I ever be home again?

Well why don't we just legalize Mary Jane because that is what is imported the most and they use those funds to finance the rest and you basically just cheapen it up/ like knocking the price of their product down so they won't really need to sneak it across the border anymore because we would test the quality of the weed before we let it across the border and free up some of the border control people for some other jobs like building roads and bridges and besides we could probably save thousands of lives down there in in good ole Mexico because they wouldn't necessarily kill each other because what would be the point because we could grow are own right here at home and the government could get the hell out of our lives and quit throwing money at enforcement when you are never gonna get rid of weed as long as there are seeds ,soil and water and light whether it be artificial or natural and oh yeah , do I need to mention customers ?

You pot heads still do not get it, pot is a drop in the bucket to the cartels and gangs will still be in business with more expensive drugs, extortion, kidnapping, killing for profit, prostitution and all the usual things they are into. How will this help?
      • donald 3 mths ago
Well said Kenneth! Ron, how about all of you just stop smoking pot, because its people like you that are getting people killed. To support pot is to support the cartels.

(Read all this with an open mind before you post a reply) Most of you armchair commandos write your ideas on how to fix a very big problem, and some of you, not all are Racists and/or cowards, hide behind a keyboard and writing hate, and whether you like it or not, you are either a part of the problem or a part of the solution, if a part of the problem, please sit down, shut up and stay out of the way. If not, get out of your comfort zone and do something to help, in America, Mexico or where ever you are. Now before you ask the questions I am always asked, I will try to answer them the best I can.
      1. Then what I am doing about anything to help, I am an American citizen on social security and helping the churches in Mexico to for an example, feeding needy families, and other Churches do give alcohol and drug rehab, what I do may not much, but I do what ever I can. I am a 70 year old widower, but I still want to help make a difference.
I burned my car up traveling up and down Mexico taking pastors where they needed to go, but will not stop because of a little set back. I work a little slower, as I have to take buses to where they need and want me. Oh yes I know, you say only a fool would live in Mexico but I love the people here, they are truly genuine and am too old to worry about someone who might want to killing me down here.
      2. Am I for gun control because of the killing down here by the cartel? No I am not for gun-control; I am a Life Time NRA Member and know from experience that gun control does not work. Yes they have strict gun control laws in Mexico but that is their business, I am not here to meddle in their politics and do not want to either.
To the ones that do not understand my point here sorry, maybe if you read this enough times you will understand. The only thing that really matters, being a Christians or not, is if this stirs some of you into action and helping others, in the community you live in or anywhere, or if for some reason you can not do it yourself, find some place and donate something, just stay involved please. If some of you do this, I have accomplished what I wanted to do. - - - Hate from both sides does not help anyone, just lack of proper home training and education.
If you want to ask any other questions, ask away, but if you are some of the few that want to write hate towards me and other people still, do not bother, it is very childish and I will not answer, it means nothing to anyone anyway. I know I keep posting this but maybe someone with will get the message and do something.

You could show the people here how really bad you are by excepting the challenge but I doubt you have the huevos, so run back to your mommy and hide behind her skirt.

He confessed? Yeah right. I've been in a Mexico City jail just once. The absolute, most horrible experience in my life. They tried to beat a confession out of me over something that occurred before I even entered the country. If it wasn't for the American consulate being called by my wife I would have disappeared and never been seen again. Mexico is a criminal dictatorship and should be nuked.

Just another slow day of crime in the tvrd-world, primative, barbaric, feces-smelling wannabe country of messiko. Looks like presidente Felipe Calderon is doing a wonderful job of combating violent crimes in this sh!+ hole.

This is for all you idiots who keep saying "legalize pot"....your idiots. You keep trying to rationalize how much better it would be if you could just run down to your local 7/11 and buy a dime bag. The same can be said about prostitution, and any number of other things. How about you just stop buying pot instead. Every time you buy that crap, you support the cartels. That means you support the killings, violence, kidnappings, gangs in the U.S., and everything else that goes with it. I hope your moments of getting high are worth all the deaths that come with it.
