When "Dexter" returns to Showtime for its sixth season on October 2, expect Michael C. Hall's serial killing character to be a changed man, despite his recent heartbreak.
"Refocused," Hall told Access Hollywood at the CBS/The CW/Showtime Television Critics Association party in Beverly Hills on Wednesday night, describing the Dexter of Season 6.
When asked if that meant his character was back with a renewed passion in the serial killing game, the actor answered with a sly smile.
Hall, who is up for an Emmy again for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, said his character definitely won't be wallowing in breakup induced self-pity after splitting with Lumen, played by Julia Stiles at the end of Season 5.
"You watch the last minutes, the last sequence of the season, when he blows those candles out, he's like 'Done. Done,'" Hall said of his character's decision to definitely move on.
While the last episode that aired of the series seemed to suggest that Dexter would begin Season 6 summer-sitting for his step children, when asked by Access Hollywood if fans will see such a situation take place, Hall confirmed reports that the show will skip ahead in time.
"There's a leap forward. That's all I'll say -- at the top of 6. So we're not picking up during the time that that would have happened.," he said.
Joining the cast this season is former "Mad Men" alumnus, Colin Hanks, who plays Travis Marshall, a researcher and Hall told Access the new addition will be some sort of foe to his Dexter.
"He's sort of gonna be my nemesis," Hall explained, stopping short of revealing any more. "As you can understand, we're reluctant to give away anything that's too specific. I don't know if you saw the Comic-Con trailer -- he's in a swamp with black snakes and Edward James Olmos. There's something snakey and swampy about it."
"Dexter" returns to Showtime on Sunday, October 2 at 9 PM ET/PT.
