Microsoft Gets a Mysterious Visit from Chinese Government Officials
The Microsoft offices in China has a recent visit from Chinese government officials. Details of the sudden visit were not disclosed, though it seems to have been some kind of government inspection. Chinese media, which is state controlled, reported that officials visited Microsoft offices all over the country, including in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Chengdu. The officials were from the department of Industry and Commerce.
The visits come shortly before the Xbox One goes on sale there. The government recently lifted a ban on gaming consoles, so this will be the first time Microsoft has been able to sell the consoles in China.
Earlier this summer, Microsoft's Windows 8 was banned from being installed on central government office governments in China. As Reuters reports, Microsoft has been the focus of "anti-U.S. technology sentiment in China," due to worries about NSA monitoring through U.S. technology products and companies.
Microsoft only offered this statement about the visit, "We aim to build products that deliver the features, security and reliability customers expect and we’re happy to answer the government’s questions."
