Microsoft offers free game for Xbox One owners burned by bad hardware

Here’s how the Xbox One could become cheaper than the PS4 – permanently

Microsoft is rewarding Xbox One buyers who encountered issues with the console right out of the box with a free game for their troubles, in addition to a replacement console. The news comes straight from Xbox customer care, which has notified some Xbox One owners via email that they can choose one of four titles including Dead Rising 3, Forza Motorsport 5, Ryse: Son of Rome and Zoo Tycon to download for free on their Xbox One, Polygon reports.

“While a replacement console is on its way, we want to ensure our advance exchange customers can stay in the game,” Microsoft said in a statement. “We will provide each of them with a free digital download of one of the launch titles published by Microsoft Studios.”

The Xbox One launched on Friday in thirteen markets, with Microsoft announcing that it sold over 1 million units in less than 24 hours, a launch record for the Xbox division. However, some early buyers discovered several issues with the newly purchased consoles including problems with the optical drive. Since the free game Microsoft offers can be downloaded, Xbox One owners will be able to play it while they wait for a replacement unit.
