Milton driver dies after hitting tree, ejecting from vehicle as SUV catches fire

A Milton driver died Tuesday after he smashed into a tree and was ejected from his vehicle.

Florida Highway Patrol responded to the crash off Highway 90 near State Road 87 in Santa Rosa County, where they found the driver 67-year-old man deceased.

"(He) lost control of the SUV and exited the roadway to the right striking a tree," the FHP report says. "The driver was ejected from the vehicle. The vehicle caught on fire."

While firefighters put out the vehicle fire, paramedics pronounced the man dead on scene, according to the report.
