Milton residents will be able to cast their vote a third time for the school budget.
Milton has set a date for its next school budget revote.
On June 4, residents will once again decide whether to approve or reject the budget which influences how much residents owe in property tax this year.
The Milton Town School District is one of two districts, so far, in Chittenden County that will go before voters a third time to gain approval for the school budget. South Burlington also faces a third vote on May 7.
The general fund budget numbers for the next vote hadn't been set yet as of May 6. At the April 29 school board meeting, members said the regular May 9 meeting would be an opportunity for the community to provide feedback on the budget and a special budget meeting of the board was scheduled for May 14.
Milton voters previously rejected school budgets of $37,172,203 and $36,672,099 which would have raised taxes by 15.3% and 12.6%, respectively, during votes on March 5 and April 16. The next fiscal year begins July 1, making it difficult for Milton to exceed three rounds of voting before needing funds for the school year. If a school district does not approve a budget by July 1, it can borrow from the state education fund up to 87% of the current school year's amount.
Other Chittenden County school districts still seeking budget approval include the South Burlington School District and Essex Westford School District. Both districts are holding elections on May 7.
