‘The Mindy Project’ Review: New Hulu Home Sees Comedy In Top Form

A little more than five months after The Mindy Project ended its third and final season on Fox, the comedy is back on September 15 for a fourth season – now on Hulu. Unlike some cancelled network shows that have made the move online, the Universal Television-produced series, as my video review above says, hasn’t lost any of its strengths in translation. On Hulu, as previously on Fox, TMP is funny, witty and hitting its high marks.

The fact is, as fans of the series likely will rejoice about, the Mindy Kaling-created show hasn’t changed very much online from what it was on network. For one thing,

the 26-episode fourth season will roll out new shows week after week and not in one big bingeing wave. Also, and I don’t think anyone will consider this a spoiler, the new episode picks up right where Season 3 ended on March 24: Mindy and Danny, played by Chris Messina, are still together and still having a baby – and all that entails. Ike Barinholtz is back as Morgan, and the Duplass brothers show up.

While some of the language is a bit more explicit, all the main characters from when the show was on Fox are back, and even the opening sequence is basically the same. For a show that always has had a wide range of guest stars this Hulu version of TMP continues that tradition. The new season sees the likes of Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Garret Dillahunt showing up, as well as a long-rumored couple finally make an appearance. There is a big, or rather little, addition to the show — but I think you can see that one coming, if you know what I mean.

Take a look at my review of the Hulu debut of The Mindy Project, and tell us what you think. Are you going to be dropping by Shulman & Associates this fall?
