Minecraft creator doesn’t want to ‘play along’ with Microsoft on Windows 8
Markus Persson, creator of the hit indie game Minecraft and CEO of Mojang, is fed up with Microsoft (MSFT) and its Windows 8 operating system. The software giant reached out to Persson hoping the he would “certify” his game for Windows 8, a requirement for the company’s app store. The outspoken game developer, however, replied to Microsoft by telling it to “stop trying to ruin the PC as an open platform.” He went on to write on his Twtter page that he would “rather have Minecraft not run on Win 8 at all than to play along,” adding that “maybe we can convince a few people not to switch to Win 8 that way.” This isn’t the first time Microsoft has received criticism from the gaming community regarding Windows 8 and its app store. Valve CEO and one-time Microsoft executive Gabe Newell earlier this year called the operating system “a catastrophe for everyone in the PC space.” Newell went on to claim that following the launch of Windows 8, ”we’ll lose some of the top-tier PC/OEMs, who will exit the market.”
