    Whether you're interested in a single family home or a condo as a first-time homebuyer in Minneapolis, make sure you're searching neighborhoods that are a good match for your needs and lifestyle. Only a handful of Minneapolis neighborhoods meet eligibility requirements for the Minneapolis Advantage loan program that provides down payment and closing assistance to first-time homebuyers. If you don't need any financial assistance to secure your home, you can explore some other attractive neighborhoods around this busy metropolitan area.

    Here are just five Minneapolis neighborhoods that are a great match for first-time homebuyers:

    Midtown Phillips

    Midtown Phillips is one of the eligible neighborhoods for the Minneapolis Advantage program and is a fairly tight-knit, family-oriented community. You'll find several well-developed areas here, and it's within easy reach of major employers including Wells Fargo Mortgage, Abbott Northwestern Hospital, and Allina Health Care Services. This can be an attractive neighborhood for newlyweds and new parents looking for a family-friendly community near Minneapolis.

    Downtown West

    First-time homebuyers who want to live closer to the heart of the city can find some very attractive single family homes and condos in this neighborhood. This area is well-suited for homeowners who want a more modern, urban atmosphere and easy access to offices and the financial district in downtown Minneapolis. While housing prices are slightly higher here than in the suburbs, the location is still appealing to many families.

    Beltrami

    Beltrami is also located near the downtown area northeast of Minneapolis and just minutes from the University of Minnesota campus. The small community is home to a diverse population of blue collar workers, artists, and graduate students. It hosts some resident events throughout the year and is a close-knit community well-suited for young couples and residents without children. This neighborhood is eligible for Minneapolis Advantage program benefits.

    Stevens Square

    Young professionals interested in purchasing their first condo can choose from several modern, contemporary buildings around the Stevens Square neighborhood. This neighborhood is two blocks from the Art Institute and other cultural attractions, and is also within easy reach of several downtown Minneapolis restaurants, shops, and entertainment venues. The median annual income of residents here is lower than the citywide average so first-time homebuyers can find something that fits their lifestyle and budget.

    Lowry Hill East

    Located in the Calhoun-Isles Community in Minneapolis, this area is bounded by Hennepin Avenue and several cultural attractions. This community does have a high percentage of singles and median housing prices are much lower than the average. First-time homebuyers looking for a fixer-upper or starter home can find some attractive properties around the main shopping and dining areas. This is an attractive choice for younger couples without children.
