The family of a missing doctor are said to be “devastated” by her disappearance.

Dr Rose Polge disappeared on Friday after reportedly “walking out stressed” from her shift at Torbay Hospital in South Devon.

The 25-year-old from Melbourne, Herfordshire qualified as a doctor last year. Her disappearance sparked a huge police search operation.

Her car and a hoodie were found near Anstey Cove in Torquay. Police are trying to establish if the hoodie belonged to Dr Polge.

A source close to the family said: “They are still desperately hoping for good news but are clearly devastated that she has gone missing.”

A neighbour, who did not wish to be named, said: “We know the family as my daughter used to babysit for them many years ago.

“I just feel terribly sorry for them. It must be horrible.”

Commenting on Facebook, Robyne Toseland, who used to work Dr Polge, said: “Such a sad and awful situation - can’t imagine what her poor family must be going through right now. She such a sweetheart, praying she’s found safe.

“She’s such a lovely girl, who I had the pleasure of working with. Thinking of you Rose”.
