Missing Mickey Mouse spurs school lockdown in Ohio

CANFIELD, Ohio (AP) — A northeast Ohio elementary school says a missing Mickey Mouse spurred a brief lockdown while parents were visiting the school for Valentine's Day parties.

The Vindicator in Youngstown (http://bit.ly/wj00n5 ) reports a parent wanted to surprise a class dressed as Mickey Mouse but failed to tell the principal at C.H. Campbell Elementary School in suburban Canfield. The woman signed in at the office, but then changed into the costume in a restroom. She went into the class as Mickey Mouse, and then changed out of the costume. Superintendent Dante Zambrini says "it was a case of, Mickey Mouse was here, and then he was missing."

The school was locked down as a precaution.

The superintendent says the woman talked with police and they determined she didn't mean any harm.

How ironic. A Mickey Mouse article that actually is about Mickey Mouse. It is a good thing that nobody showed up in a Cupid costume. They would have called in the National Guard!

        Not irony. Coincidence.

By virtue of carrying a bow and arrow, Cupid would have been classified as an armed terrorist. Not to mention indecent exposure for just wearing a little loincloth! I can see the headline: Armed, bomb-diaper wearing terrorist invades school.

And to think we have stupid people like this controlling our children's educations.

        Another impetus to homeschool.

And that tax money should follow the student. Either to the parents for homeschooling or to the private school they choose, as the case may be.

Frankly, I expected that the school had been locked down as the result of someone's stuffed animal gone AWOL. Thankfully it wasn't that stupid. Or was it?

To all those who are saying this is stupid, it's the same as losing a pencil etc... Some of you seem not to have read the article. Imagine, a random Mickey Mouse, totally anonymous stranger in a mask, shows up at a class of small children for a few minutes and leaves, then doesn't sign out from campus as required, so could be lurking anywhere on campus (probably with the costume off.) Weird, scary things happen to children and the administrators are responsible for monitoring all adults coming and going from campus. If they weren't overly careful and something happened, it would probably be the same thoughtless commentors slashing them for that. For some reason the mother, who did sign in to enter, didn't tell the office she would be in costume. If she said what class she was headed to, it's possible they could have figured out that it was her, but... With all the commotion on campus that day it's not hugely surprising that they couldn't figure out for 100% certain who it was in the mask within the 5 minutes it would be safe to remain wondering. How could they know someone hadn't slipped in without signing at the office; it's not a prison campus. And it made the news because it's vaguely funny, and they're always scraping for some interest headlines for people to click on.
