Missing Virginia Beach woman found dead by search and rescue team

A search and rescue team on Saturday morning found the body of a 76-year-old Virginia Beach woman who had been missing since earlier this week, police said.

Shu-Jin Wu was discovered about 6:50 a.m. in a body of water behind a shopping center in the 1600 block of General Booth Blvd., Officer Linda Kuehn, police spokeswoman, wrote in an email.

Foul play is not suspected at this time, she said.

“We appreciate the support and assistance from the community, who gave their time and care to assist with the search efforts,” Kuehn wrote.

The woman’s family reported her missing to police, and a senior alert was issued. She was last seen Tuesday in the 1500 block of Gallery Avenue off Dam Neck Road, which is not far from where her body was found.
