Mitt Romney disses the UK, Michael Bloomberg on cops, guns and strikes: The dumbest political quotes of the week

Each week, the Daily Caller picks the dumbest political statements and ranks them (just for Yahoo! readers) on a scale of 1 to 5 (5 being the worst). Who do you think said the dumbest thing? Vote in our poll below!

Mitt Romney must really like the taste of his own foot, because during his trip to London this week, he just kept on putting it in his mouth.

The day after he offended British Prime Minister David Cameron and London Mayor Boris Johnson by suggesting the city wasn’t ready for the Olympics, the GOP presidential hopeful again angered Brits by breaking the MI6 code of silence.

"I can only say that I appreciated the insights and perspectives of the leaders of the government here and opposition here as well as the head of MI6 as we discussed Syria and the hope for a more peaceful future for that country," Romney told reporters Thursday.

Come on, Mitt. What’s the first rule of Fight Club? Don’t talk about Fight Club! Same thing applies to the highly secretive British intelligence agency.

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg made a pretty dumb suggestion Monday to abandon all law and order -- all for the sake of making a point.

During an interview with CNN’s Piers Morgan, the mayor talked about his preference for stricter gun control laws following last week’s Aurora, Colo. shootings:

“I don’t understand why the police officers across this country don’t stand up collectively and say, ‘We’re going to go on strike. We’re not going to protect you unless you, the public, through your legislature, do what’s required to keep us safe,’” Bloomberg suggested.

What a great idea! Let’s just revert to a lawless state. All the police should just go on strike, and sit back and watch what happens with the criminals and the loonies who already own guns.

This is something the mayor would say in a Christopher Nolan movie.

Anyway, Bloomberg later insisted he was kidding around. In addition to being New York’s mayor, he is also the richest individual in the America's largest city and somebody with a lot to lose if there’s chaos in the streets.

Whether or not this is dumb or awesome or just plain ridiculous is up for debate – but it is definitely 100 percent crazy.

William Tapley, YouTube enthusiast and self-proclaimed “co-prophet” of God who says he can predict “the end of times,” published a video last Friday for an original song he suggests Mitt Romney can use as campaign music called, “Mitt Romney, A Hero In My Mind.”

The best lyric comes after Tapley’s warning about the end of the world, which he says should be here any day now. He then sings about why Romney is a hero:

“Word War III, that’s Obama’s plan for you and me… / He should resign/ That’s why I’m voting for Mitt Romney/ He’s a hero in my mind.”

It’s just a hunch, but don’t expect Tapley’s song to be featured in Romney’s next campaign ad.
