Mitt Romney's Tax Returns, by the Numbers

On Tuesday, Mitt Romney responded to the mounting pressure from his fellow Republican candidates vying for the presidential nomination and released his 2010 tax return information, as well as his estimated tax information for 2011. Let's take a look at some of the numbers behind these returns:

$21,646,507: Mitt and Ann Romney's adjusted gross income for tax year 2010. That amount includes nearly $3.3 million in interest, almost $5 million in dividends and over $12.5 million in capital gains.

$112: The amount of federal income tax withheld from Mitt and Ann Romney's 2010 income.

$1,609,441: The amount of overpayment that the Romney's made in their 2010 taxes. They applied that entire balance to their 2011 estimated tax.

$1,525,000: The amount that the Romney's gave to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in 2010.

$1,458,807: The amount of noncash charitable donations that the Romney's made in 2010.

13.8: The percentage of the Romney's adjusted gross income in 2010 given to charitable organizations.

13.9: The percentage of the Romney's adjusted gross income that was paid in taxes in 2010.

$20,908,880: The amount of total income that the Romney's estimate they earned in 2011. Over $3.1 million was earned in dividends, nearly $4.1 million was earned in interest and over $10.7 million was earned in capital gains.

$4,020,572: The amount-in cash and in kind-that the Romney's estimate that they gave to charitable organizations in 2011.

$500,000: The amount that the Romney's estimate that they gave to the Tyler Charitable Foundation in 2011. The Romney's set up the Tyler foundation to give scholarships and grants, often to the Mormon Church or to students attending at the Mormon-affiliated Brigham Young University in Utah, Mitt Romney's alma mater. In recent years the foundation has given money to additional charitable organizations, including United Way, City Year and others.

15.4: The percentage of the Romney's adjusted gross income that they estimate will be paid for the 2011 tax year.

19.2: The percentage of the Romney's adjusted gross income that they estimate they gave to charitable organizations in 2011.

$3,009,766: The amount of tax that the Romney's owed in 2010.
