NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks are mixed at the opening of trading on Wall Streets as investors wait for the minutes of the latest meeting of Federal Reserve policymakers.
The Dow Jones industrial average was off 6 points at 12,647 shortly after the opening bell Wednesday. The Standard & Poor's 500 rose a point to 1,341 and the Nasdaq lost six points to 2,896.
The Fed releases minutes from its latest meeting at 2 p.m. Eastern.
In Europe, Spain's borrowing costs fell after the country imposed new sales tax hikes and spending cuts in a bid to slash nearly $80 billion from its budget over the next two and a half years. Spain is being squeezed by high borrowing rates and 25 percent unemployment.
Energy stocks rose after the price of oil rose.
