    Mobile Telecommunications in China: IBISWorld Industry Report Now Updated

    The Mobile Telecommunication Services industry in China is expected to continue to develop steadily in the five years to 2016. However, due to future market saturation levels, growth in mobile telecommunication subscriber numbers will slow in the outlook period. Industry revenue will increase at an annualized growth rate of 6.1% in the five years to 2016, according to IBISWorld, America’s largest publisher of industry research.

    In the past decade, the Mobile Telecommunication Services industry in China has developed rapidly, with strong growth in subscribers of mobile telecommunication services. Services provided by the industry are increasing in speed and scope, and replacing some services provided by the Wired Telecommunication Services industry in China.

    In 2011, revenue from the Mobile Telecommunication Services industry in China is estimated to increase at an annualized growth rate of 12.0%, to $106.67 billion (constant 2011 dollars), up by 8.2% from 2010 and accounting for about 70% of revenue from China's total Telecommunication Services sector. Within this industry, the mobile data service segment expanded rapidly, while the paging services segment has almost disappeared.

    Due to the growing coverage rate of mobile telecommunication services in China, growth in subscribers is expected to slow in future years. Therefore, more value-added services are expected to be developed to meet individualized requirements and increase average revenue per user. In the five years to 2016, industry revenue is expected to increase to $143.27 billion, representing an annualized rate of 6.1%, a level significantly lower than in the past decade, mainly due to market saturation.
