    Moderate earthquake shakes northern Afghanistan

    KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — An earthquake of 5.5 magnitude has rattled the Hindu Kush region of northern Afghanistan, but there are no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

    The U.S. Geological Survey says that the quake occurred Monday at 4:29 p.m. local time.

    The epicenter, in the southern end of Badakhshan province, is 175 miles (280 kilometers) northeast of the Afghan capital of Kabul, where the quake was felt for about 15 seconds.

    It also was detected in neighboring Afghan provinces and created slight tremors in Pakistan's capital, Islamabad.

    Badakhshan provincial governor spokesman Rashk who, like many Afghans goes by one name, said he had not received any reports of damage.

      The only thing that matters is whether or not we have Christ as our personal Lord and Savior when we leave this earth. Christ's words are so telling they're worth repeating, in all truth...."What good is it for a man to gain the whole world and yet forfeit his soul."

      “Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city. Outside are the dogs, those who practice magic arts, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood. I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star.” - Rev 22:14-15.

      "Who is the liar? It is the man who denies that Jesus is the Christ. Such a man is the antichrist--he denies the Father and the Son. No one who denies the Son has the Father; whoever acknowledges the Son has the Father also." 1John 2:22-23.

      So anyone who denies the Son, denies the Father also.

      “That if you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord’, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.” Rom 10:9-10.

      God loved us so much that He sent His only Son Jesus Christ to die for us. This is a free gift that is offered by grace through faith in Jesus the Son of God.

      It is only through Jesus that anyone can be saved – John 14:6, Acts 4:12.

      Ask Him to come into your life as Lord and Savior and you will be saved. He is the lamb of God. We're saved by what He did by dying on the cross for our sins, not by what we do.

      “And if by grace, then it is no longer by works; if it were, grace would no longer be grace.” Rom. 11:3

      You "wash your robe" so to speak, by receiving the free gift of pardon that Jesus offers through His shed blood on the cross.

      Christ not only died in our place, but He also led the perfect sinless life. He never sinned at any time during His walk on earth. He was completely blameless. This is why He is called the "Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world" in the Bible. He didn't deserve to die, but yet He choose to die in our place for all the sins we've ever committed if we receive Him by faith as Lord and Savior.

      This is why having our sins forgiven through Christ's shed blood on the cross is the only way we can stand righteous before God, according to the Bible. It is because a just God cannot allow sin to go unpunished or He simply wouldn't be a just God. God cannot allow sin to go unpunished and this is why He gave His only Son to die in our place. But if you reject His Son, then there no longer remains any substitute for your sin and the penalty is eternal separation from God in a place the Bible calls hell. Even though many people don't believe this it is nonetheless the reality. Some may not believe in gravity but if they walk off a building they will reap the consequences of gravity regardless of whether or not they believed it.
