Mom scolds bickering pundit sons live on C-SPAN

'Oh God, it's Mom'

Bickering at holiday dinners is to be expected in most houses  but the mother of two brothers who are both TV pundits has had enough.

Political operatives Brad and Dallas Woodhouse were surprised when their mother called into C-SPAN on Tuesday to caution them against fighting at Christmas.

While the pair may present the perfect recipe for entertaining TV, this apparently does not make for peaceful family gatherings. Joy Woodhouse called in to say she’s sick of having her holidays ruined by their opposing views, as she made very clear when she lectured them during a joint C-SPAN appearance.

Dallas and Brad Woodhouse were promoting their documentary "Woodhouse Divided" on live TV when they received a call from a woman named “Joy in Raleigh, N.C.” Dallas, a Republican operative who helps run the political nonprofit Carolina Rising, initially appeared excited to welcome “somebody from down South,” but as soon as the woman started talking, Dallas groaned, “Oh God, it’s Mom.”

“You’re right, I’m from down South. And I’m your mother!” Joy exclaimed as Brad, a Democrat, buried his head in his hands.

The surprise call was prompted by the bickering brothers’ comment that it is common for families to engage in political debates, just as they do.

“I disagree that most families are like ours. I don’t know many families that are fighting at Thanksgiving,” Joy Woodhouse scolded her stunned sons. “I was very glad that this Thanksgiving was a year that you two were supposed to go to your in-laws, and I’m hoping you’ll have some of this out of your system when you come here for Christmas. I would really like a peaceful Christmas.”

The host then asked Joy Woodhouse if she was a Republican or a Democrat.

"Well, I am a registered Democrat," she answered. "But I have, at times, split my ticket."
