What Moms Really Want for Mother's Day

It looks like the great disconnect between American men and their mothers will continue this Mother's Day. Half of the guys in the United States think their moms want roses or jewelry on their special day, a new survey shows. Guess what? They're wrong.

A Mother's Day survey conducted by Ebates.com, an online cash-back shopping destination, discovered that more than half of American men (55 percent) think the mom in their life wants to receive roses, but the No. 1 item women actually want is a gift card to their favorite store. Only one in five mothers surveyed said they would like roses.

The survey, which was conducted online in April among 1,000 adults, found that moms would also like to receive a homemade gift, followed by a spa day and jewelry.

The ranking differs from the results of last year’s 2012 Ebates.com Mother’s Day survey, which found women ranked a spa day as their No. 1 gift of choice, perhaps reflecting more stressful times.

Nearly half of American men (49 percent) also ranked jewelry as a top gift they believe moms want for Mother’s Day — a gift that only one in five women (22 percent) actually want to receive.

The survey also found that 28 percent of men will spend between $20 and $50 on a gift for mom.

“Buying the right gift for mom can be a challenge, and we want to help make finding that perfect present easy and affordable for everybody,” said Kevin H. Johnson, CEO of Ebates.com.
