A camper was deemed a total loss after a fire on Monday afternoon.

A camper was destroyed and two garages and a carport were damaged in a Monday afternoon fire near downtown Watertown, according to a news release from Watertown Fire Rescue.

Firefighters were dispatched at 12:40 p.m. to 216 2nd St. S.W., where they found a fifth-wheel camper in the alley that was engulfed in fire. Two garages and a carport were also exposed to the fire, per the release.

Two propane cylinders were burning in the camper, which made firefighting efforts more difficult, according to the release. Responders were on the scene for approximately two hours, working to protect adjacent buildings.

In addition to the camper being considered a total loss, one garage sustained moderate smoke damage and extensive damage to an exterior wall. The carport and the other garage sustained mild to moderate damage, according to the release.
