More travelers visit Hawaii in November, spend more money while on islands

HONOLULU (AP) -- Travelers to Hawaii spent 23 percent more in November compared to the same month last year.

The Hawaii Tourism Authority said Thursday 14.5 percent more visitors traveled to the state during the month.

The agency says more people came to Hawaii from the eastern and western U.S., as well as from Japan and Canada.

CEO Mike McCartney says the agency is optimistic for the coming year. He says there's been tremendous growth in visitors from Asia and the Pacific. He says airlines will add more flights to Hawaii from these areas in 2013.

McCartney says the state is on track to hit or exceed agency targets of 7.89 million visitors and $13.9 billion in visitor spending for all of 2012.
