Mortal Kombat X Coming to Mobile Devices

Warner Bros. and NetherRealm on Monday announced a mobile version of the upcoming fighting game Mortal Kombat X. A free-to-play game, Mortal Kombat X for mobile devices is described as a fighting game/card-battler hybrid that "delivers the next evolution in mobile fighting games."
The game, simply titled Mortal Kombat X, is developed by NetheRealm Studios, the same team behind the upcoming console and PC game. It will launch this April for iOS and Android devices alongside the core title, which arrives April 14.
“NetherRealm Studios has created a Mortal Kombat X mobile experience that allows more players than ever before to play this over-the-top fighting game through their ever-present smartphones, tablets, or other devices," NetherRealm boss Ed Boon said. “What's more, we've expanded the unique cross-connectivity feature that links the mobile and console versions of Mortal Kombat X, delivering unique rewards to all players for simply playing the mobile game."
Mortal Kombat X for mobile devices combines fighting, card-collection, multiplayer team combat, and "striking graphics," NetherRealm says. The game features a deep roster of characters (and their Fatalities), including Scorpion, Sub-Zero, and Raiden, as well as newcomers. A full roster for the mobile game was not announced, nor was it said if the mobile version and console/PC editions will feature the same character lineup.
The mobile version of Mortal Kombat X also ties into the console/PC edition. Players who own the console/PC version can unlock content in the mobile game and vice versa. To do this, players will need to create a free WB Play account and complete various objectives. What form this bonus, unlockable content will take was not announced.
According to the Mortal Kombat X mobile teased trailer above, players will control the game through swipe-based inputs. It's unclear if the game will also support controllers as some other high-profile games have before.
Being a free-to-play game, it's expected that Mortal Kombat X will feature microtransactions in some form or another. However, Warner Bros. did not detail any such micro-payments Monday.
