Moyse training with eye on Olympics

Having competed in the Rugby World Cup in June, Heather Moyse is training with the hopes of going to the Olympics in February.

Olympic gold medalist Heather Moyse is on P.E.I. this week visiting family, but still training towards the second of two goals she set for herself in the fall.

Moyse won gold for Canada in bobsleigh in Vancouver in 2010, and has her sights set on Sochi in February.

Last fall Moyse made a commitment to represent Canada both in rugby and in bobsleigh once more, despite undergoing hip surgery in November that put her in a leg brace for six weeks. She was, however, able to overcome that obstacle and play for Canada in the Rugby World Cup in June.

Moyse said her hip was not at 100 per cent for the rugby tournament, but she is happy with her state of fitness as she begins training for bobsleigh in earnest.

"It's really exciting to know that I haven't even been training for it and I'm already looking like I'm in a pretty good spot," she said.

"I've been in this long enough to know that nothing's guaranteed. I'm going into the Olympic season with Sochi, as a hopeful."

Moyse said she has challenged herself to be as good if not better than she was before.

The 2014 Winter Olympics start in February in Sochi, Russia.
