According to new mystery, know-it-all sources, former One Direction babe, Zayn Malik, is set to take to the stage at tonight’s ceremony in his first performance since leaving the biggest boyband on the planet back in March.

Oh who are we trying to kid, there’s no way we can all stay calm after that bombshell.

The 22 year old is thought to be joining American star The Weeknd on stage, with the US act previously teaming up with the likes of Ed Sheeran and Kanye West.

NBD, right?

A source dished: “He’s been rehearsing all day. Obviously when you spend so much time with a band and a group you have support so now he’s on his own it’s different.”

And the fact that his mum, Trisha, recently flew out to join her son in Los Angeles as he records his debut solo album is another massive hint according to this insider, who added: “His mum flew out especially they’re close so she wanted to see her son’s big day.”

SQUEAL.

We don’t want to get too ahead of ourselves, but if the rumour is true then it only adds to a pretty amaze line-up for tonight’s big MTV bash at the Microsoft Theatre in LA.

Is it wrong that we are kind of hoping for Zayn and Weeknd to re-enact Miley Cyrus and Robin Thicke’s 2013 VMA performance?

Because that would definitely end up making history.
