Muppets to Anti-Gay Chick-fil-A CEO: ‘Will You Get Out of Here?’

The Jim Henson Company, creator of characters including Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy, has cut all ties with fast-food chain Chick-fil-A after the chicken purveyor’s CEO exposed his anti-gay beliefs in an interview.

When asked about Chick-fil-A’s support of the traditional family, exclusive of gay marriage and same sex parenting, CEO Dan Kathy responded, “Guilty as charged.”

“We are very much supportive of the family—the biblical definition of the family unit,” he clarified, in the July 16 article with the Baptist Press.

Kathy’s comments have stirred up nationwide controversy. An online petition to boycott the fast-food chain has already generated more than 4,700 signatures. The mayor of Boston has also vowed to stop Chick-fil-A from roosting in Boston, reported the Boston Herald.

As for the Muppets, the Jim Henson Company released a statement four days after Kathy’s quote, explaining it will no longer work with Chick-fil-A.

Known for shows such as “Fraggle Rock” and “The Muppets,” the Henson company previously created puppet toys for Chick-fil-A’s kids’ meals, reported the Los Angeles Times.

“The Jim Henson Company has celebrated and embraced diversity and inclusiveness for over fifty years … Lisa Henson, our CEO is personally a strong supporter of gay marriage and has directed us to donate the payment we received from Chick-fil-A to GLAAD [Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation],” the Jim Henson Company statement, posted on Facebook, reads.
