Music Monday (11/3): This Week's New Albums + Videos

This week's new album releases

Each title listed below will go on sale beginning Tuesday, November 4 unless otherwise indicated.

Deerhoof
. La Isla Bonita LISTEN (NPR)

Two decades into their careers, the San Francisco weirdo-punk band returns with a follow-up to 2012's Breakup Song and their 13th album overall. The band claims that the Nick Sylvester-produced La Isla Bonita was influenced by The Roots, Sonic Youth, Lou Reed, David Byrne, Radiohead, Beck, David Bowie, Ric Ocasek, Janet Jackson, and The Flaming Lips—and, yes, Madonna—but they ultimately threw out plans for a slickly produced pop album after liking the raw, punk direction the songs were taking in early recording sessions.

Bob Dylan & The Band
. The Basement Tapes Complete:
The Bootleg Series Vol. 11
6xCD LISTEN (NPR)

While The Basement Tapes, the legendary collaboration between Bob Dylan and members of The Band, featured a 24-song tracklist when it was eventually released (eight years after its recording) in 1975, the album actually excluded much of the material recorded during the 1967 sessions. Some of those additional songs have been circulating as bootlegs, but you can toss those away. This week, every single "salvageable" recording from those sessions (many only recently discovered, including 30 tracks that were never known to exist) has been cleaned up and included on this massive 138-song set. The complete 6-disc edition includes a 120-page book, and there's also a condensed 2-disc set if you don't want to splurge.

Neil Young
. Storytone 2xCD LISTEN (NPR)

Neil Young's latest solo album features 10 original songs, including his recent single "Who's Gonna Stand Up?". But that's not the full story of Storytone. In its double album version, every song appears twice: once performed alone by Young, and a second time with Young backed by a 92-piece orchestra and/or a huge band and a choir.
