Music Monday (3/23): This Week's New Albums + Videos

This week's new album releases

Each title listed below will go on sale beginning Tuesday, March 24 unless otherwise indicated.

Action Bronson
. Mr. Wonderful LISTEN (Spotify)

Out today, the rapper and food-lover's major-label debut features Chance the Rapper, Chauncy Sherod, and Party Supplies. The latter is also one of the album's producers, along with the Alchemist, Mark Ronson, and Noah "40" Shebib. Is there an officially sanctioned Billy Joel sample? Why yes, there is.

Courtney Barnett
. Sometimes I Sit and Think,
and Sometimes I Just Sit

Australian singer-songwriter Courtney Barnett first gained international acclaim for her songwriting skills with her 2013 compilation The Double EP: A Sea Of Split Peas. Recorded in her native Melbourne, this new record marks her proper full-length debut.

Earl Sweatshirt
I Don't Like Shit, I Don't Go Outside:
An Album by Earl Sweatshirt LISTEN (Spotify)

One of several "surprise" releases today (though the surprise was actually ruined a week ago when iTunes began accepting pre-orders), I Don't is the Odd Future collective rapper's follow-up to his highly acclaimed 2013 debut Doris. Guests include Vince Staples, Dash, Wiki, and Na'kel.

The Go! Team
. The Scene Between LISTEN (NPR)

One of indie music's most exuberant bands, England's The Go! Team returns this week with their fourth album and first since 2011's Rolling Blackouts.

Jeff the Brotherhood
. Wasted On The Dream LISTEN (NPR)

Whereas the Nashville brother duo of Jake and Jamin Orrall spent just one week in the studio to record their previous album Hypnotic Nights, eighth album Wasted on the Dream is the result of a much lengthier writing and recording process, and the result is what the band describes as their most fully realized album to date. There's just one slight hitch on the way to record stores: the Brotherhood were just dropped by label Warner Bros., which resulted in a delay of a few weeks. (The album will now come out on the duo's own Infinity Cat label.)

Kendrick Lamar
. To Pimp a Butterfly LISTEN (Spotify)

Details about Lamar's highly anticipated follow-up to his stunning major-label debut Good Kid, M.A.A.D City have been leaking over the past few weeks, but as recently as a few weeks ago the album had the mysterious title of "untitled." Not so surprisingly, it eventually added a less generic name and album artwork, and it "officially" goes on sale today after briefly and "accidentally" becoming available on iTunes a week ago (a stunt that proved to be intentional). Already a strong album-of-the-year contender thanks to phenomenal reviews, the 16-track To Pimp a Butterfly includes recent singles "i" and "The Blacker the Berry" and collaborations with George Clinton, Flying Lotus, Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Pharrell, Thundercat, and Bilal.

Lightning Bolt
. Fantasy Empire

The noise-rock duo of Brian Chippendale and Brian Gibson haven't released a full-length album since 2009's Earthly Delights. Their latest, album #6 overall, is their first release for new label Thrill Jockey, and the label describes it as both stranger and more reflective of their live shows than past releases.

Laura Marling
. Short Movie LISTEN (NPR)

The singer-songwriter returns with a follow-up to Once I Was an Eagle, one of 2013's best-reviewed albums. And Short Movie may be just as good, if early reviews are to be trusted.
