Music Monday (3/9): This Week's New Albums + Videos
This week's new album releases
Each title listed below will go on sale beginning Tuesday, March 10 unless otherwise indicated.
Will Butler
. Policy
The first true solo LP for the Arcade Fire multi-instrumentalist (and brother of Arcade Fire frontman Win Butler) follows his Oscar-nominated score to the Spike Jonze film Her (a collaboration with Owen Pallett) as well as a recent stunt for The Guardian in which he recorded a song a day for a week based on each day's news stories. Butler took a comparatively leisurely full week to record Policy, which also features backing by Arcade Fire drummer Jeremy Gara.
Madonna
. Rebel Heart
The pop star's 12th studio album and first since 2012's MDNA features appearances by Nicki Minaj, Chance the Rapper, and noted vocalist Mike Tyson, with production coming from a vast roster that includes Kanye West, Avicii, Blood Diamonds, Ryan Tedder, and Diplo. The album is available in standard, deluxe (which adds five tracks, including a Nas collaboration), and super deluxe (with a second disc adding yet another six tracks) editions.
Matthew E. White
. Fresh Blood LISTEN (NPR)
Virginia-based artist Matthew E. White follows his acclaimed 2012 debut Big Inner with a sophomore set that finds him backed by lush orchestration and a choir (though a deluxe edition comes with a bonus LP featuring a stripped-down, orchestra-free version of the album).
