National Association Of Securities Dealers Automated Quotation System (NASDAQ)

An over-the-counter market and computer network that provides brokers with competing prices on stocks quoted in the system. It also displays the names of the competing market makers, enabling brokers and customers to expedite trades. Since 1997 the SEC has considered NASDAQ an exchange. It reports prices and other information on three markets – the Global Select Market, the Global Market and Capital Market.
