    NATO says Gadhafi fighters continue to be threat

    BRUSSELS (AP) — The general commanding NATO's mission in Libya said Thursday that isolated groups of forces loyal to ousted strongman Moammar Gadhafi continue to be a threat to local people but are unable to coordinate their actions.

    Canadian Lt. Gen. Charles Bouchard said in a conference call with reporters that many Gadhafi forces are surrounded with no way out. On Wednesday, NATO's decision-making body, the North Atlantic Council, granted approval to extend the mission for another 90 days. Without an extension, permission for the operation would have expired Sept. 27.

    "We are now at a point where I can only urge regime forces to surrender, to bring an end to these activities," Bouchard said.

    Despite their isolation, the general said, forces loyal to former strongman Moammar Gadhafi "are still dangerous ... and violence against the population continues."

    Bouchard said that the NATO mission "is not over by any means." Gadhafi remains at large and Bouchard said he had no idea where he was hiding. His supporters remain well- armed and fighting is still raging on three fronts in Gadhafi's base in Sirte, the desert town of Bani Walid and the southern area of Sabha.

    Government forces this week have made inroads against Gadhafi loyalists in Sabha, the last major city on a key road leading south to the border with Niger.

    "Well, I don't think there are too many places left in Libya for regime forces to go," Bouchard said. "The (Gadhafi) forces are no longer capable of coordinated action anywhere in the country ... What we are now witnessing is tactical, very localized action."

    That is a reason for NATO to stay and protect the local population, he said.

    Libya's new rulers insist the holdouts in Gadhafi's hometown of Sirte, Bani Walid and Sabha are die-hard supporters, including many who escaped Tripoli, and believe they have no choice but to resist or face war-crimes charges.

      All the NATO countries involved in the overthrow of the Libyan Government, need to draft their people send them & their military to Afghanistan,to help out.Norway,Italy,Poland,etc. They are part of NATO...so get busy.........Unless they just like killing babies, and will take a pass

Gadaffi, of course, preferred to spend on th education, health and other uplifting areas of Libyan citizens

      NATO is nothing more than a bunch of liars! They have not told one truthful thing since this started or showed the 1st ounce of evidence in their claims! They lied about the no-fly zone and ptotecting civilians! NATO and their bombs combined with these rebels attacking cities have murdered more civilians than Gadhaffi forces! Again NATO is bombing these cities not knowing what or who their bombs are hitting! It is time congress cuts off funds for this mass murder campaign led by NATO!

      Since rebel and NATO did not enter move to the town do you hear Qaddafi force kill someone there, since rebel and NATO have not move to the town any body die in the towns? Stop injustice and think world do not know, anybody that die there now will declare as people killed by Qaddafi force, even if everyone with world able or position to say is afraid to come open, world know truth, don’t say anything you like and think world do not reason from what they hear and notice and understand along the whole. the war is not supported by Majority of liyban, i can believe that now upward

      But how all these rebel leaders think they will have peace in the country after all such great rubbish mistake, kill their own people just as they said Qaddafi force do before NATO support, they have done worst. Even if they kill Gaddafi and all his family, I don’t believe there will be peace in next 20 year in Libya. Big Mistake, I pray that another country will not do such mistake again. World know truth, every one need earthly wealth but wouldn't be by such great bloodish, war against Qaddafi is known to world not with complete justice.
