Warriors forward Harrison Barnes hoping to play in season opener against Lakers

Golden State Warriors forward Harrison Barnes plans to play in the season opener despite a lingering left foot injury, a source told Yahoo Sports.

Barnes has missed three straight preseason games with left foot inflammation after playing just six minutes in the second preseason game against the Sacramento Kings on Oct. 7. It is uncertain whether the second-year veteran will play in the final two preseason games. The source, however, said Barnes' foot injury is improving and he will be ready to play in the regular-season opener against the Los Angeles Lakers on Oct. 30.

Barnes started in the first two preseason games over Klay Thompson at small forward. But Warriors coach Mark Jackson recently told NBA.com during the team's recent China trip that Barnes' absence could cause him to be a reserve when the regular season starts. Such a scenario would give Thompson and Andre Iguodala the nods as the starting wing players.
