(Adds late games) Nov 1 (The Sports Xchange) - Highlights of Friday's National Basketball Association games: - - Nets 101, Heat 100 Brooklyn snapped a 13-game losing streak to Miami and overcame a furious Heat charge in the final three minutes for a 101-100 victory in their home opener. The score was tied 47-47 at halftime, but the Nets (1-1) began the second half on a 24-8 run to go up 71-55. Brooklyn still led 96-84 when Joe Johnson hit a three-pointer with 2:47 to go, but a 10-0 Miami run capped by a Mario Chalmers three-pointer with 18 seconds to play got the Heat (1-2) within two. Deron Williams hit one of two free throws with 18 seconds left, but Ray Allen could only make one of his two on the other end. Two free throws from Paul Pierce pushed the lead back to four, but LeBron James hit a 3-pointer with four seconds to play to cut it back to 99-98. Johnson hit two free throws to make it 101-98. Bosh answered with two of his own, but the Nets were able to run out the clock. Pierce and Johnson led the Nets with 19 points, and Brook Lopez added 13. James led all scorers with 26 points and Wade added 21. Bosh, Chalmers and Allen also finished in double figures, but Miami was out-rebounded 40-30. The NBA champions have started the season with two losses in their first three games. - - Rockets 113, Mavericks 105 James Harden scored a game-high 34 points and carried the Houston Rockets through an uneven performance to a 113-105 victory over the Dallas Mavericks. Harden ended his tug-of-war with Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki with 6:11 remaining, drawing a foul while converting a driving layup to send the foul-plagued Nowitzki to the bench once and for all. Harden completed the three-point play to boost the Houston lead to 96-83. Nowitzki finished with 22 points but only four rebounds as the Rockets' interior tandem of Dwight Howard and Omer Asik controlled the glass. After totaling 40 rebounds against the Charlotte Bobcats on Wednesday, Howard and Asik snagged 28 boards against the Mavericks (1-1). Dallas forced Houston (2-0) into 23 turnovers but converted those into only 18 points. - - Magic 110, Pelicans 90 Veteran Aaron Afflalo scored 30 points and Maurice Harkless had 20 as the Orlando Magic celebrated their home opener by burying the New Orleans Pelicans 110-90. The Magic led almost from start to finish for their first victory after two earlier losses. The Pelicans, who had beaten the Magic twice during the exhibition schedule, offered little resistance after the first quarter. They remain winless. Afflalo, who scored 28 points in Wednesday's loss at Minnesota, made 10 of 14 shots from the field and four of five from 3-point range against the Pelicans. Harkless, who scored only two points on Wednesday, had 16 points in the first half. Anthony Davis, the top pick of the 2012 NBA Draft, led the Pelicans with 26 points and 17 rebounds while guard Jrue Holiday had 17 points and five assists. - - Bobcats 90, Cavaliers 84 Kemba Walker scored 23 points and hit a key three-pointer with 58.3 seconds left to give the Charlotte Bobcats a lead they held to record a 90-84 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers. Walker's three-pointer broke an 84-84 tie after the Bobcats let a 10-point fourth quarter lead slip away. The Cavaliers then failed to score on their next three possessions and Gerald Henderson hit two free throws and Walker another for a 6-0 Charlotte run. The Bobcats' win was the first career victory for first-year coach Steve Clifford. - - 76ers 109, Wizards 102 Thaddeus Young scored 29 points and Spencer Hawes had 16 points and 14 rebounds as the Philadelphia 76ers pulled off a 109-102 comeback win over the Washington Wizards. Evan Turner had 23 points and rookie Michael Carter-Williams scored 14 points, two of six 76ers (2-0) to score in double figures. After rallying to shock the two-time defending NBA champion Miami Heat on Wednesday, Philadelphia triumphed despite trailing by 14 points in the first half, 54-44 at halftime and 85-78 with 8:50 remaining in Washington's home opener. Carter-Williams' missed his opening five shots, but his three pointer gave Philadelphia its first lead at 92-89 with 6:28 left. John Wall scored 21 of his 26 in the first half, and Trevor Ariza had 12 points and 14 rebounds for the Wizards. - - Bucks 105, Celtics 98 The Milwaukee Bucks, who were down 22 points in the first half, spoiled Boston's home opener by roaring from behind for a 105-98 victory that gave Larry Drew his first win as Milwaukee coach. The Bucks ended the game with a 17-5 run in the final 4:28, including a 10-0 burst that sent the crowd away disappointed. The injury-depleted Bucks won the game with their bench. Zaza Pachulia scored 20 points, six in the final 43.5 seconds, and had nine rebounds and four assists in 30 minutes to lead the way. Rookie Nate Wolters and John Henson (nine rebounds) had 14 points apiece and fellow sub Khris Middleton added 13 points. Gary Neal was the only starter in double figures with 14 points. - - Timberwolves 100, Thunder 81 Playing team defense and getting scoring up and down the lineup, the Minnesota Timberwolves beat up Oklahoma City 100-81 at Target Center. Kevin Love, who scored 31 points on Wednesday, had 24 points and 12 rebounds against the Thunder. Point guard Ricky Rubio (14 points, 10 assists) also had a double-double, as did center Nikola Pekovic (15 points, 10 rebounds). The Wolves built a 20-point halftime lead and then used an 11-3 run to end the third quarter to push the lead to 28 entering the fourth quarter. Minnesota's defense was more impressive as Corey Brewer led a team effort against Kevin Durant, who was held to 13 points. It was the fewest points he has scored in a regular-season game since December 31, 2011, against Phoenix. He was four of 11 with four turnovers before sitting out the fourth quarter. - - Hawks 102, Raptors 95 Al Horford had 22 points and 16 rebounds, Kyle Korver scored 17 on five three-pointers and Jeff Teague contributed 17 points and 12 assists in Atlanta's 102-95 victory over the Toronto Raptors. DeMar DeRozan had 31 points for Toronto, including 23 in the second half. But the Raptors (1-1) could not get closer than five points after trailing by 18 in the third quarter. Atlanta (1-1) built a 70-52 lead just past the midpoint of the third quarter thanks to a 34-15 stretch dating to the final two minutes before halftime, and were up 79-68 going into the final period. - - Grizzlies 111, Pistons 108 (OT) Detroit's inability to beat Western Conference teams on the road continued on Friday as the Memphis Grizzlies defeated the Pistons 111-108 in overtime. The Grizzlies outscored the Pistons 16-13 in overtime. Memphis point guard Mike Conley led all scorers with 22 points before fouling out. Longtime Piston Tayshaun Prince, who was traded to the Grizzlies last season, only scored eight points, but six of them came in the overtime and one was a wide-open three-pointer that put Memphis up 102-97. The last time the Pistons had a road victory over a Western Conference team was March 14, 2012, at Sacramento. The Pistons had the last possession in regulation with 8.2 seconds left. Guard Chauncey Billups missed a three-pointer from the wing and the game went to overtime tied 95-95. - - Trail Blazers 113, Nuggets 98 LaMarcus Aldridge scored six of his game-high 25 points down the stretch and the hot-shooting Portland Trail Blazers held on to beat Denver 113-98 in the Nuggets' home opener. Wesley Matthews had 21 points and 12 rebounds and Nicolas Batum also scored 21 for the Blazers, who hit 12 of their first 18 shots from three-point range and finished 14-for-22 from behind the arc. Nate Robinson scored 24 off the bench and Ty Lawson scored 21 for Denver, which dropped its first two games of the season - - Clippers 110, Kings 101 Chris Paul had 24 points and 10 assists, and Blake Griffin added 18 points and 16 assists, as the Los Angeles Clippers held off a furious rally for a 110-101 victory over the Sacramento Kings. The Clippers, playing for the second straight night and third time in four nights, were able to win their second consecutive despite blowing a 15-point third-quarter lead. Paul's 27-footer for a three-pointer vaulted Los Angeles ahead to stay after the Kings erased a 66-51 deficit and inched in front 92-90 with 6:43 to go in the final quarter. He then hit two free throws on his next possession. Jamal Crawford finished with 18 points for the Clippers and made three three-pointers, moving past Tim Hardaway into 15th place on the NBA's all-time list. Isaiah Thomas single-handedly kept the Kings (1-1) in the game, scoring 29 points on nine-for-13 shooting and making all three of his three-pointers. DeMarcus Cousins finished with 24 points and 10 rebounds for Sacramento, his second double-double in as many contests. - - Suns 87, Jazz 84 Eric Bledsoe landed 17 of his 18 points in the fourth quarter and drilled the winning three-pointer from 25 feet with 0.7 of a second left as the Phoenix Suns shook off the loss of Goran Dragic and scored a 87-84 win over the Utah Jazz. Miles Plumlee posted his second consecutive double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds. The Suns improved to 2-0 for the 11th time in team history but the first time since the 2009-10 season. All previous 10 Phoenix teams that started the season 2-0 made the playoffs. The Suns lost Dragic to a right facial contusion when he collided with Tucker late in the first half. He tried to play in the third quarter but lasted just three minutes as facial swelling continued. Enes Kanter had 20 points and 12 rebounds and Gordon Hayward added 18 points, but Bledsoe, who was none of six from the field and none of three from three-point range after three quarters, drilled the winner. - - Spurs 91, Lakers 85 Tony Parker scored 24 points and Manu Ginobili came off the bench to deliver 20 more as the San Antonio Spurs defeated the Los Angeles Lakers 91-85 at Staples Center. Kawhi Leonard added 15 points and 11 rebounds for the Spurs (2-0), who handed the Lakers (1-2) their second consecutive defeat after a season-opening romp over the L.A. Clippers. Pau Gasol led the Lakers with 20 points and 11 boards. The Lakers held an 80-78 lead after a three-point play by Jodie Meeks with 3:55 remaining in the game, but faded down the stretch. Parker, Boris Diaw, who hit a big three-point shot with less than two minutes left, and Tiago Splitter sparked a 9-1 Spurs run for 87-81 lead with a little more than a minute.
