NBA Roundup: Sullinger faces charges

Boston Celtics forward Jared Sullinger entered a not-guilty plea on Tuesday on charges tied to an alleged domestic dispute Saturday.

Sullinger was arraigned on charges of battery, malicious destruction of property and witness intimidation stemming from an alleged incident with his girlfriend, Deann Smith. Bail was set at $5,000. Judge Gregory C. Flynn also ordered Sullinger not to contact Smith in person unless a third person is present, according to The Boston Globe.

A warrant was issued for Sullinger's arrest Saturday when police responded to an incident call at his home. Sullinger had fled before police arrived.

Sullinger, a first-round pick in 2012 and two-time All-American at Ohio State, played in 45 games as a rookie with the Celtics before he was injured in January.

---The Phoenix Suns waived Michael Beasley on Tuesday, ending the forward's tenure with the team one year into a three-year deal and one month after his arrest for suspected marijuana possession.

Beasley, who averaged a career-low 10.1 points per game in 2012-13, reached a termination agreement reducing the amount the team will pay him for the remaining two years on his contract. It also increases the team's salary cap space for the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons.

Beasley, the former No. 2 pick in the draft, has had problems with marijuana before. He has stated that he entered a drug treatment facility in 2009 after twice violating the league's drug policy, and was ticketed and fined in 2011 for marijuana possession while playing with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

---The Toronto Raptors waived guard-forward Quentin Richardson on Tuesday, less than two months after acquiring him in a trade with the New York Knicks.

Richardson, who came to Toronto on July 10 along with center Marcus Camby, forward Steve Nash and three future draft picks in exchange for forward Andrea Bargnani, signed with the Knicks in April and played in five playoff games, averaging just under three minutes per contest. He averages 10.3 points per game in his 13-year NBA career.
