NBC Promos ‘American Odyssey’ Spy Thriller via Google Maps Pact (Exclusive)

NBC has turned to Google to map out the twists and turns of the Peacock’s forthcoming freshman drama series “American Odyssey” via a companion website.

The “Explore American Odyssey” site, powered by Google Maps, which launched Monday, focuses on key cities and destinations from the show and will let fans unlock clues and view exclusive content.

Terms of the deal between NBC and Google were not disclosed. “American Odyssey,” which NBC is slated to premiere Sunday, April 5, stars Anna Friel (“Pushing Daisies”) as U.S. Army Special Forces Sgt. Odelle Ballard: a soldier, mother, wife and her unit’s only female member. She uncovers files proving an American military contractor is funding jihadists — but before she can reveal the truth, her team is attacked and killed.

The new website will provide info about the characters, as well as exclusive photos, documents, dossiers and other content from the show, geared around locations starting with Manhattan.

“Working with Google Maps we were able to create ‘Explore American Odyssey,’ a companion experience that transports viewers to key cities in the show and lets them follow along by discovering clues and exclusive content,” said Kjerstin Beatty, senior VP of media for NBC Entertainment.

The website turns “American Odyssey” into a “fully immersive, multiscreen experience,” according to Alex Angeledes, Google’s head of media and entertainment.

Viewers will be invited to check back to the Google-powered site after new episodes have aired on NBC to discover the latest leaks and interceptions.

The series was created by Peter Horton (“Grey’s Anatomy”), Adam Armus (“Heroes”) and Kay Foster (“The Following”).

“American Odyssey” — previously titled simply “Odyssey” — also stars Peter Facinelli (“Nurse Jackie”), Jake Robinson (“The Carrie Diaries”) and Nate Mooney (“The Riches”).

The series is a Universal Television, Fabrik Entertainment and Red Arrow Entertainment production. Mikkel Bondesen (“The Killing), Henrik Bastin (“Bosch”), Kristen Campo (“The Killing”) and Simon Maxwell (“Off the Hook”) serve as exec producers along with Horton, Armus and Foster.
