NBC Taps DreamWorks’ Chip Sullivan As Head Of Communications

After a lengthy search, NBC has reached to the feature world to find a new head of communications to succeed Richard Licata, who left last fall. Long-time DreamWorks PR executive Chip Sullivan has been named EVP Communications for NBC Entertainment, serving as chief communications executive for the NBC network and Universal Television and reporting to Robert Greenblatt, Chairman of NBC Entertainment.

“He is one of the brightest, most innovative, and most highly regarded communications experts I’ve ever known, and his legendary tenure at DreamWorks puts him in a unique position to bring great vision and a fresh perspective to our programming and our leadership team,” Greenblatt said.

Sullivan has been involved in all the various incarnations of DreamWorks live action and animated films for nearly 20 years. He most recently served as the Head of Global Brand Integration and Publicity for DreamWorks Animation. He joined the company in 1995 as Head of Special Projects and worked on such films as Saving Private Ryan, American Beauty, Gladiator and Shrek.

Following the animation studio’s IPO in 2004 and Paramount Pictures’ acquisition of DreamWorks Studios in 2005, Sullivan played a role at both companies where he oversaw Corporate Communications for the live action studio on such films as Sweeney Todd, Dreamgirls, and Transformers, and Special Marketing Projects at the animation studio on films including Kung Fu Panda and Madagascar.

After DreamWorks Studios split from Paramount, partnered with The Reliance ADA Group in 2009 and aligned with Walt Disney Studios for distribution, Sullivan worked on films including The Help, War Horse, and Lincoln.
