News Summary: Feds may add to GM midsize car recall

THE PROBLEM: The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration received complaints from consumers that brake lights are malfunctioning on three midsize cars. A small number have been recalled and the agency is studying whether the recall should be widened.

THE CARS: About 8,000 Pontiac G6s from 2005 have been recalled. In February the agency said it was investigating 550,000 G6s. Now the 2004 to 2011 Chevrolet Malibu and the 2007 to 2009 Saturn Aura may be recalled, too.

THE SOLUTION: GM traced the problem to corrosion in a wiring connector. Dealers can fix it by applying a lubricant.
