News Summary: Federal safety agency may expand Pontiac G6 recall for brake light problems

THE COMPLAINTS: U.S. safety regulators have received 212 complaints that the brake lights and cruise control can malfunction on Pontiac G6 midsize cars. About 8,000 cars from the 2005 and 2006 model years built in January of 2005 were recalled in 2009. Now the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is looking into whether G6s from the 2005 through 2009 model years should be added to the recall. That could be up to 550,000 cars.

THE PROBLEM: Brake lights don't illuminate when the pedal is pressed, or they illuminate when the pedal isn't being pressed. Cruise control can shut off unexpectedly or not work at all.

THE SOLUTION: In the 2009 recall, GM dealers put a lubricant on a connector to prevent corrosion.
