News Summary: Watchdog says IRS officials had luxury hotel rooms, free drinks at conference

Associated Press

ROOM SERVICE: A government watchdog cited the IRS for a $4.1 million training conference featuring luxury rooms and free drinks, as conservatives told Congress they were abused while seeking tax-exempt status.

LUXURY SWEETS: A total of 132 IRS officials got room upgrades at a 2010 conference in Anaheim, Calif. One stayed five nights in a room that regularly goes for $3,500 a night.

TEA TIME: Testimony from tea party members and other conservatives was the first time groups complaining about IRS treatment appeared before lawmakers since the IRS revealed the problem — and apologized for it — last month.
