News Summary: J&J recalls faulty hip implants

News Summary: Johnson & Johnson recalls thousands of hip implants

DEJA VU: Johnson & Johnson again recalled thousands of its hip implants because a high percentage don't work right and have to be replaced within several years.

THE DETAILS: The recall covers 7,500 all-metal hip implants, sold under the Adept brand between 2004 and 2011 in 21 countries, but not the U.S. That's after national registries in two countries found between 7 and 12 percent of the implants failed within 3 to 5 years.

THE HISTORY: J&J has issued more than 30 product recalls since 2009, including one for two other types of hip implants, the DePuy ASR brands.
