News Summary: Passengers returning to US after fire aboard cruise ship in Bahamas

Associated Press

DANGER AT SEA: A fire aboard the Grandeur of the Seas led to an early end of the Royal Caribbean cruise, as the ship's 2,200 passengers were flown home on charter flights from the Bahamas.

WHAT HAPPENED: The fire that began overnight Monday was extinguished about two hours later with no injuries reported, and the ship never lost power. The ship had left Baltimore on Friday for a seven-night cruise.

BAD PRECEDENT: It's the second time a fire at sea aborted a cruise ship's voyage: in February the Carnival Triumph was disabled by an engine room fire in the Gulf of Mexico, stranding thousands of passengers while the ship was towed to Mobile, Ala.
