News Summary: Stocks push higher, helped by higher home prices, consumer confidence

HOME SURGE: Home construction company PulteGroup rose 4 percent after home prices jumped 12.1 percent in April, the most since March 2006. That report as well as a surge in consumer confidence helped send the market higher.

DOW UP: The Dow Jones industrial average ended up 100 points at 14,760, winning back much of its 139-point loss the day before. Markets have been jittery over the past week as traders watch troubling signs in China's economy and get ready for the eventual end of economic stimulus from the Federal Reserve.

BOND YIELDS: The yield on the 10-year Treasury note rose to 2.60 percent from 2.54 percent the day before. The yield, which is used to set interest rates on many kinds of loans, has risen sharply since hitting a 2013 low of 1.63 percent on May 3.
